These extremely popular privately minted Silver coins are a Commemorative issue of the 1934 to 1938 half dollar minted to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Texas Independence. The obverse of this coin features, the lone star tradition being carried forward with a large five-pointed star behind a majestic eagle, in the center of the coin. In the surrounding fields are the words In God We Trust, E. Pluribus Unum and the date "1937". Around the rim are the words "United States of America and Half Dollar".  The reverse of this coin features an image of the winged liberty kneeling and holding The Alamo in her hands with portraits of the two founders of The Republic of Texas: General Sam Houston on one side and Stephen Austin the other. The Anniversary dates of 1836 and 1936 appear beneath The Alamo. Around the rim are the words "The Texas Independence Centennial" and “Remember The Alamo”.
