These extremely popular privately minted Silver coins are a Commemorative issue of the 1937 half dollar minted to celebrate the 350th Anniversary of the founding of the colony on Roanoke Island, North Carolina. The obverse of this coin features, a bust of Sir Walter Raleigh in the center. In the surrounding fields are the words "Liberty, E. Pluribus Unum, Sir Walter Raleigh" and the date "1937". Around the rim are the words "United States of America and Half Dollar".  The reverse of this coin features an image of the baby Virginia Dare, (the first child of English parentage to be born on the American continent), held by her mother Eleanor Dare. In the surrounding fields are two English three masted ships and the motto "In God We Trust". Around the rim are the words "The Colonization of Roanoke Island North Carolina" and the anniversary dates "1587-1937". These coins are a great symbol of American history!
