Mexico Monument to Independence 24K Gold 1 oz. Coin $6.00 each. This extremely popular privately minted 1 oz. gold coin commemorates the Angel of Independence, most commonly known by the name El Ángel. The obverse of this beautiful coin features the Angel of Independence Statue, most commonly known by the shortened name El Ángel and officially known as Monumento a la Independencia ("Monument to Independence"), it is a victory column on a roundabout on the major thoroughfare of Paseo de la Reforma in downtown Mexico City. El Ángel was built in 1910 during the presidency of Porfirio Díaz by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado, to commemorate the centennial of the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence. In later years it was made into a mausoleum for the most important heroes of that war. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Mexico City.  The reverse shows the Seal of the United Mexican States which is a modified version of the national coat of arms. The coat of arms depicts a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus devouring a rattlesnake. To the people of Tenochtitlan this would have strong religious connotations, but to the Europeans, it would come to symbolize the triumph of good over evil, (with the snake sometimes representative of the serpent in the Garden of Eden). Above the image is the addition of the full official name of the country, Estados Unidos Mexicanos, in a semi-circular accommodation in the upper part of the seal.  This coin is not an official government issue, but it is a privately minted commemorative issue that is clad in 99.9% pure premium 24K Gold. This coin is a high quality collectable. These coins make a great gift or addition to your collection! Each coin comes in a plastic snap case to protect it. Photos show front and back views. These stunningly beautiful coins are just $6.00 each!
